Erika is a fine art and documentary photographer who was born and raised in Germany. She has been living in the UK since 2000 when she moved to Edinburgh to study and has since made the UK her permanent home. She is now based in Bristol. Erika is inspired to experiment with a wide range of photographic equipment and techniques, whether using film or digital. She is particularly excited by the possibilities of transforming an everyday scene in order to evoke an emotional response in the viewer, using mainly the Holga camera with its unique characteristics of soft-focus and vignette corners. In her documentary work, she likes to record public celebrations and events during which she can capture people's reactions in a positive way.
Her image 'Storm Riders' was selected from 1,100 entries for the Finalists Exhibition of the 2012 RGB Awards. Erika was a featured artist in a talk on 'Film photography in the digital age' at the Royal West of England Academy in 2011.
